Boarding Prep: How to Pack, What to Expect, and How to Ease Anxiety

Heading out of town? Boarding your dog doesn’t have to be stressful if you—and your pup—are prepared. Here’s how to make the experience smooth and comfortable.
What to Pack
  • Food & Treats: Bring enough for the entire stay, measured out if possible. Familiar food avoids stomach upset.
  • Medications: Label everything clearly with instructions.
  • Comfort Items: A favorite blanket, toy, or even an unwashed T-shirt can provide familiar scents that help your dog feel at home.
  • Leash & Collar: Always send them with properly fitted gear.
Helping Your Dog Feel Comfortable
  • Meet & Greet: Schedule a visit before boarding. Let your pup explore, sniff around, and meet us—familiarity reduces anxiety.
  • Practice Stays: For nervous dogs, short daycare sessions before an overnight stay help them adjust gradually.

How The Blue Hound Helps Shy or Anxious Dogs
We keep things cozy and low-stress. Dogs have space to decompress, play in smaller groups if needed, and receive personal attention. Because we’re a small home-based setup, we can adapt to each dog’s comfort level.

Bottom line: The more you prepare, the more your dog feels at home. Boarding can be a positive, even fun experience with the right setup and care.
